Friday, Oct. 23

AA: The Singleness of Purpose Group will have an open 12-step and 12 Traditions meeting at 7:30 p.m. each Friday, at the Miami Nation of Indians Building, 80 W. 6th. This meeting is smoke-free.

Fish fry: Fish fry, every Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at VFW 2067, 151 Washington Ave.

Book Reading: Miami Circuit Court Judge Robert Spahr will have a free lunch time reading of the four books he’s written on the “Adventures of Torto.” From 4:15 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Eastwood Place, 701 E. Main St. in Peru, Spahr will read a chapter, starting with his first book. Spahr plans to read all chapters of his four books aloud in 48 business days. The public is invited. Leaf pickup: The City of Peru Street Department will be picking up leaves left at the curbs east on Main to Sixth streets, east of Broadway today, Oct. 23. Leaves will not be picked up in alleys.

Dinner and bake sale: The Christian Life Fellowship of Miami County, 2372 W. Old Stone Road (located behind Kmart) will host a homemade chicken and noodle dinner and bake sale from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. Dinner includes green beans and homemade cinnamon rolls. There is a charge for the meal.

Saturday, Oct. 24

AA: The Circus City Twelve Steppers will meet at 10 a.m. every Saturday at Salvation Army, 84 W. 2nd, downstairs. This is smoke-free and open to the public.

Stockdale Mill: The Stockdale Mill will be open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. every Saturday. Tours last 45 to 60 minutes. Donations are appreciated.

Tire Days: The Miami County Solid Waste Management District will have Tire Days at Leffler Tire, 138 E. Eighth in Peru, from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 24. Limit is 10 tires, with an additional charge for more than 10 tires or tires on rims. Tire Days is open to Miami County residents only. Proof of residence is required. Breakfast: The New Waverly United Methodist Church will serve breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. Menu includes scrambled eggs, biscuits, sausage gravy, pancakes, French toast, fresh sausage, smoked sausage, coffee, milk and orange juice. A free-will donation will be accepted.

Fundraiser: The Knights of Columbus and St. Charles Parish fund raiser will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in the St. Charles School gymnasium. The event is open to the public and will feature a variety of delicious homemade chili soups, an ice cream social and beverages. Coral Reef Group will perform from 5 to 7:30 p.m. A free-will donation will be accepted.

ABWM breakfast: The Mexico First Baptist Church will host a breakfast fundraiser for its ABWM from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at the church, located at 4088 N. Carroll in Mexico. Breakfast will be served in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Proceeds to benefit ABWM’s local and national missions. A free-will offering will be accepted for the meal, which will include biscuits and sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, fruit, donuts, milk, coffee and juice.

Super Soup: The Town of Macy will host its first Super Soup Contest Saturday, Oct. 24. Antique tractors and pedal cars will begin at 11 a.m., followed by soup tasting at 12:30 p.m. Other activities include kids games, hay ride and a DJ.

Bake sale: The CVS Relay For Life bake sale will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the CVS Pharmacy, located at the corner of Main and Broadway in Peru. The bake sale is sponsored by the CVS Dream Team. All proceeds will go toward the 2010 Relay For Life.

Sunday, Oct. 25

Lower Lights: The Lower Lights, a student choir from Riverside Christian School in Lost Creek, Ky., will present a program at the Mexico First Brethren Church at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25.

Breakfast: An all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, in the St. Charles School gymnasium. The breakfast will also include coffee and orange juice. Free-will donation will be accepted for the Knights of Columbus and St. Charles Parish fundraiser.

Trunk or Treat: The Peru Church of the Brethren, 134 E. Fifth, will host its third annual Trunk or Treat from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, in the church parking lot. The public is invited to come in full costume and fill their bags with candy from decorated vehicle trunks. Following the event, Dave & Dwayne Ministries Inc. will entertain for an hour, starting at 6 p.m. Snacks will later be served in the church Fellowship Hall. Monday, Oct. 26

TOPS: Peru TOPS Club 690 will meet at 3 p.m. every Monday at Bona Vista. For more information call (765) 460-5463.

Women’s AA: There will be a Women-in-Recovery meeting at 7:30 p.m. each Monday. Enter through double doors at the rear of 53 E. Main in Peru.

AA: The AA Singleness of Purpose Group will have an open meeting every Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Miami Nation of Indians Building, 84 W. 6th. This is a non-smoking meeting.

Soup & Serenity: There will be a ‘soup and serenity’ meeting in the Salvation Army Conference Room, 84 W. Second in Peru, from noon to 1 p.m. each Monday, excluding holidays.

Bingo: The Moose Family Center, 110 N. Broadway, will host Bingo every Monday. Early birds 6-7 p.m., regular bingo 7-9 p.m.

Quilt Guild: The Come Spread the Warmth Quilt Guild will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church, 102 W. Tuesday, Oct. 27

Grief education: Community grief education will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the Senior Center, 661 E. Main Street in Peru. Guardian Angel Hospice Chaplain Steve Fleck will be hosting the event that is designed to help individuals, family and friends with the process of grief. Miami County Democrats: The Miami County Democrats will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the party headquarters located at 14 S. Wabash in Peru.

School Board: The Peru Community School Board of Trustees will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the Administrative Center, 35 W. Third.

Denver Lions: The Denver Lions Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the Denver Community Building.

Erie Community: Erie Community Center Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the Community Center. All Erie Township residents are encouraged to attend.

Oak Hill: The Oak Hill School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the Administrative Office.

Wednesday, Oct. 28

Bingo: VFW Post 2067, 1512 Washington, will host bingo Wednesday with early birds at 6 p.m. and regular bingo 7-9 p.m. Kitchen will be open 5:30-7 p.m., and baked goods are for sale also.

Thursday, Oct. 29

Kiwanis: The Peru/Grissom Kiwanis Club will meet each Thursday at noon at the Peru Civic Center.

Halloween party: The Peru Moose Lodge will host a Halloween party for children of lodge members at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. Snacks will be provided. Children are encouraged to come in costume.

Board meeting: The Miami County Public Defender Board will meet in regular session at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in the Public Defender’s Office, 25 Court Street, Suite 208 in Peru.

Leaf pickup: The City of Peru Street Department will be picking up leaves left at the curbs on Sixth Street to the railroad tracks west of Broadway on Thursday, Oct. 29. Leaves will not be picked up in alleys.

Tea Party: The Miami County Tea Party will host an open house from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at the First Christian Church Fire House, 12 N. Miami in Peru. Candidates for the Fifth Congressional seat Dr. John McGoff and Mr. Brose McVey will be guest speakers. The program will be opened for questions and answers.

Fish and Tenderloin: Denver Lions Club will host an all-you-can-eat Fish and Tenderloin dinner prepared by Dan’s Fish Service from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Denver Community Building.

Friday, Oct. 30

Leaf pickup: The City of Peru Street Department will be picking up leaves left at the curbs on Ninth to 12th streets west of Broadway, including Oak Street to Longview Drive on Friday, Oct. 30. Leaves will not be picked up in alleys.
