What kind of food do these hard-training dogs at Vohne Liche Kennels eat? How did Vohne Liche Kennels get its name?

Saturday, May 17, 2008

Tribune Staff Report

Dogs being trained at Vohne Liche Kennels eat Natural Balance® dog food. It's actually made by Dick Van Patten (from the old TV show "Eight is Enough," for you oldsters). It's a natural pet food company that Van Patten started with a partner in 1989. They make natural food for dogs, cats and large carnivores like lions, tigers, polar bears and wolves in zoos and animal reserves worldwide, according to their Web site.

Kennel owner Ken Licklider wanted a German-sounding name for his kennel when he applied for AKC registration for the rottweiler he had when he was 20 years old.

"When you're 20, (Vohne Liche) sounded good," he laughed.
