FRANKLIN - They made it all the way.

As the IHSAA wraps up its golf season today, six Miami County golfers will still be playing - and one of them is in the hunt for a championship.

Peru's Brad Smith ended Tuesday's opening round of the IHSAA State Finals in second place with a three-under-par 69, just one shot off the lead. That score helped put the Tigers in ninth place, earning the final team spot for second-round action. Maconaquah's Michael Powell made the individual cut, shooting a 74, while Oak Hill freshman Tyler Keith came up short with an 80.

Peru just missed last season's cut, shooting 314, but improved to 310 this time around, adding a top 10 finish to an impressive season which already included conference and regional championships.
