The Maconaquah varsity girl's track team earned its first overall Kokomo Relays championship in school history as the Lady Braves tallied 94 points, edging Columbus East by three points.
Senior standout Krystol Hines won the coveted Walter Cross Award, which honors the top female athlete at the Kokomo Relays.
Maconaquah's Kristine Hunt, Lauren Varnau, Jessie Hoffman and Kolena Bowman won the medley relay.
Katy Howlett (17.21) finished second in the 100-meter high hurdles.
Hines (12.3) won the 100-meter dash. Deiandra Baker (12.79) finished in fifth place.
The sprint medley relay team of Hines, Baker, Savannah Sano and Deja Mattox (3:03.4) finished in third place.
The shuttle hurdle relay team of Hannah Woods, Emily Gable, Howlett and Varnau (1:18.86) finished in second place.
Amy Hausner, Hunt, Baker and Hines (52.5) finished third in the 400-meter relay.
Hoffman won the 1,000-yard run with a time of 3:05.4.
Jessica Schwartz finished fifth in the discus with a toss of 87'1".
In the long jump, Hines leaped 15'7 1/2", which was good for second place. Hausner (15'4") finished in third place.
The middle distance relay team of Hoffman, Sano, Bowman and Mattox (7:37.64) finished in second place.
The boys track teams from Maconaquah and Peru also competed in the Kokomo Relays - the oldest continuous high school track meet in the nation. The Braves finished sixth with 33 points, while the Tigers took eighth place with 14 points.
In the medley relay, Peru's Mick Heron, Tony Zimmerman, Cody Siblisk and Conrad Warder III (8:11.09) finished in fourth place. Maconaquah's team of Andy Dick, Luke Little, Justin Jenkins and Jared Holycross (9:28.61) took fifth place.
The Braves' Travis Brewer (11.5) finished fifth in the 100-meter dash.
Peru's sprint medley relay team of Clint Heisler, Rob Snyder, Warder and Zimmerman (2:39.39) finished in sixth place.
Maconaquah's Brandon Parks won the discus with a heave of 133'5".
The Tigers' Heath Kline (10'6") finished sixth in the pole vault.
The Braves' Matt Cox finished sixth in the long jump (19'6 3/4") and second in the high jump (6'2").
Peru's middle distance relay team of Jarod Morgan, Zimmerman, Heron and Warder (6:04.72) finished in fourth place.
Maconaquah's Jonas Troyer (46'5") took third place in the shot put. The Braves' Steven Evans (43'11") finished in fifth place.
OH takes a pair from ranked team
The Oak Hill varsity baseball team took a big step forward when it took a pair of games from Class 2A No. 2 Cass during a double header on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles (6-6) took advantage of eight King errors in the opener en route to a dominating 11-1 victory.
In the second game, Oak Hill hit three home runs and got strong pitching performances from Josh White and Brayden Hudson for an 11-3 win.
Mitch Bright smacked a pair of homers and knocked in three runs to lead the Eagles offensively during the second game. Cory Cook had a home run and two knocked in. Brad Needler hit a double and a single. Dustin Grogg, Ty Needler and Hudson all hit two singles.
"Taking two games from (Cass), who came in with a record of 12-1, is a great accomplishment for this team and hopefully a confidence builder," Eagle head coach Shane Edwards said.
Braves, Tigers golf in Rochester
The Peru and Maconaquah varsity golf teams took part in the Rochester Invitational. The Braves (319) finished in third place, while the Tigers (335) came in at fifth place.
Peru's Zak Tschiniak earned medalist honors by shooting a 78. Other Tiger contributors were Brad Smith (82), John McMillen (86), Nathan Cutler (89) and Tyler Cronin (94).
Maconaquah was led by Michael Powell and Chris Percival, who both shot a 79. Tommy Baldwin (80), Ryan Miller (81) and Clayton Farris (91) also contributed to the Braves' third-place finish.
Peru claws its way past Western
The Peru varsity girls tennis team captured a 3-2 win over conference foe Western to remain undefeated in the MIC.
The Lady Tigers (7-3, 4-0 MIC) got victories at No. 1 singles by Taylor Wray (6-4, 6-3) and No. 1 doubles by Meg Guthrie and Jodi Frank (6-2, 6-0).
With the match tied 2-2, the No. 2 doubles team of Lisa Sharp and Kayla Donathan had their match postponed after splitting the first two sets 3-6, 6-2. Sharp and Donathan finished their match the next day, earning the victory for Peru with a 6-2 final set score.
In junior varsity action, Ceci Applegate (9-7) picked up a win.
Oak Hill sweeps Grant Four
The Oak Hill boys and girls track teams both won their respective Grant Four tournament. The boys team earned 83 points, while the girls garnered 103.
For the girls, Katie Watson (13.61) finished second in the 100-meter dash. Allison Holt (13.81) took fifth place.
Holt (28.72) finished second in the 200-meter dash. Kasey Thompson (29.67) finished in fourth place.
Danielle Jack (1:07.59) won the 400-meter dash, while teammate Katie Singer (1:08.94) followed in second place.
The Lady Eagles' Roxy Price (2:50.17) finished third in the 800-meter run. Kaeleigh Lewis (2:55.45) took fourth place.
In the 1600-meter run, Kristen Reiff (5:58.29) finished in second place. Mary Bellinotti (6:47.81) took fifth place.
Reiff (12.50.4) won the 3200-meter run.
Lexie Conway (16.22) won the 100-meter hurdles. D'Andrea Cassidy (18.13) finished in fourth place.
Conway (50.07) also won the 300-meter hurdles. Brandi Hicks (58.35) finished in fourth place.
The 4x100 relay team of Holt, Thompson, Jack and Watson (54.84) took first place.
Singer, Thompson, Jack and Watson (4:35.03) won the 4x400 relay event.
The 4x800 team of Lindsay Templin, Price, Lewis and Reiff (11:22.48) finished in second place.
Conway (4'8") and Kristin Thompson (4'6") finished second and fourth respectively in the high jump.
Ka. Thompson and Kr. Thompson tied for second in the long jump with leaps of 13'6 1/2".
Singer (31'4") took second in the shot put, while Christina Carter (30'10") finished in fourth place.
In the discus, Carter (98'6") took second place and Price (88') finished in third place.
For the boys team, Nick Slaughter (11.89) finished fourth in the 100-meter dash. Mickey Correll (13.21) finished in eighth place.
Derek Middlesworth (24.51) finished fourth in the 200-meter dash. Slaughter (24.86) followed for a fifth-place finish.
Jeremy Flatford (55.55) took fourth in the 400-meter dash, edging out teammate Tyler Deaton (55.56), who finished in fifth place.
Neno Bellinotti (2:03.02) won the 800-meter run. Brian Harstine (2:06.46) finished in second place.
Bellinotti (4:44.15) won the 1600-meter run. James Norris (4:51.99) followed for second place.
The freshmen duo of Matt McClain (10:25.06) and Bryant Blair (10:42.71) finished first and second respectively in the 3200-meter run.
Cory Anderson (16.16) finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. Middlesworth (18.57) finished in sixth place.
Anderson (42.76) took second place in the 300-meter hurdles. Middles-worth (42.94) finished in third place.
The 4x100 team of Middlesworth, Deaton, Slaughter and Anderson (46.66) finished in second place.
Also finishing in second place was the 4x400 team of Flatford, Deaton, Bellinotti and Brad Myers (3:42.06).
Dustin Grogg, Shane Lenon, Andrew Norris and Bellinotti (8:53.4) won the 4x800 relay.
Anderson (6'2") finished second in the high jump. Jordan Michael (5'8") took third place.
In the pole vault, Middlesworth (10'6") and Deaton (9') finished in second and third places respectively.
Slaughter (18'8 1/4") took second in the long jump. Matt Middlesworth (16'6") finished in fifth place.
Brandon Lasure tossed the shot put 40'8", good for sixth place.
In the discus, Lashure (123'4") and Michael (116'11") finished in fourth and fifth respectively.
Warriors in a sweep
The North Miami varsity baseball team defeated Triton twice on Saturday, sweeping the double header 12-2 in the opener and 7-2 in the second game.
Ryan Cohee pitched a complete game three hitter for the win in the first game.
Offensively for the Warriors (4-5), Ryan Hisey hit two doubles. Jon Malott, Joel Burrus and Jake Haner each hit two singles. Shawn Hindman added a double and Shawn Robinson stroked a single.
Malott pitched a complete game for the win in the second game.
Cohee led the Warriors with three base hits. Marcus Halterman hit a double and a triple. Matt Stevens hit a double. Hindman, Robinson and Hisey each added a single.
North Miami travels to Maconaquah today at 4:30 p.m.
Bowling league to organize
The summer mixed adult bowling league will be having an organizational meeting on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Riverside Fun Center.
Teams for the upcoming season will consist of four people, with at least one person of the opposite sex. The league will last 12 weeks.

Let's win two says Peru
The Peru varsity softball team swept a double header against Rochester, winning the opener 13-2 and coming out on top 9-3 in the night cap.
In the first game, Andi Elburn picked up the win, allowing three hits while striking out seven.
Stacey Swinford led the Lady Tigers (8-4, 1-1 MIC) offensively with two doubles and a single. Rachel Smithberger hit two singles. Trista Martin smacked a double. Kaydee Miller hit three singles. Whitney Walker added a double. Kelly Maynard, Wendy Wright and Elburn each had a base hit.
Swinford recorded the win in the second game, giving up two hits while fanning nine.
Smithberger and Swinford both had two singles. Wright, Walker and Michelle Smith-berger all hit a double. Taylor Wilson, Lisa Maynard, Vicki Lind-zy and Martin all had a single.
Coach Frankie Wright will be going for his 50th win as skipper of the Peru softball team when the Lady Tigers travel to North Miami today at 4:30 p.m.
Peru JV takes two
The Peru junior varsity softball team defeated Northfield in both games of a double header.
The first game saw the Lady Tigers' (6-2) Tisheena Ambrose throw a no-hitter in a 10-0 win. Ambrose struck out nine batters in the process.
In the second game, Brittany Gries picked up the win.
On the day, Ambrose and Gries both had four hits, as did Jaleesa Sleeper and Jenna Guyer. Courtney Voss recorded three hits. Janel Engel and Alex Baker added two hits apiece. Brittany Parkman and Kayla Ingelsbe each had a hit.
Peru travels to Logansport on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Peru L.L. opens season
The Peru Little League opened its season with a slew of games.
The Dodgers defeated the A's 13-10.
Nick Steg-Nelson led the Dodgers offensively with a single, a double and a triple. Other contributors include Sam Arnold (double), Skylar Burnett (single), Shane Lindzy (single), Jack Wilson (double) and Kolton Hawkins (single).
For the A's, Sutton Baker hit a triple. Other offensive contributors were Hunter Bartel (single), Ian Sullivan (single, double), Walt Spitznagle (single), Dave Dicken (two singles) and Spencer Soldi (two singles).
The Yankees downed the Rockies 11-2.
The Rockies received base hits from Taylor Smith and Kane Roush.
Jamie Wright led the Yankees offensively with three singles. Zak Kennedy hit two singles. Evan Laudenschlager, Zak Butts, Brad Rasmus, Colin Quin, Zack Droll and Curtis Green each hit a single.
The Yankees and the Rockies hooked up for another game, in which the Yanks won 9-6.
Butts led the way for the Yankees with a home run. Others contributing were Wright (double), Kennedy (double, triple), Lauden-schlager (double), Rasmus (single, triple) and Chris Ayers (single).
For the Rockies, Roush and Travis Smith both hit two singles. Zach Saylor had a base hit.
The Cardinals beat the Cubs 16-1.
For the Cards, Andrew Kuepper had two singles to lead the way offensively. Others contributing were Alex Kuepper (single), Luke Primerano (single, double), Lucas Labare (single) and Ethan Beech (double).
The Cardinals also earned a 17-4 win over the Cubs.
Logan Primerano smacked a pair of home runs and added a single to lead the Cardinals. Other Cardinals that contributed offensively were Grant Gehret (two singles), Braxton Campbell (two singles, double), Mike Richardson (two singles, home run), Chase Ogle (two singles), Paul Huneryager (two singles, home run), Eathan Bowman (single), Nathan Mosher (single), Chandler Richardson (single) and Chris Johnson (single).
The Cardinals took out the Giants 9-5.
Lo. Primerano and Richardson both hit two doubles and a triple to lead the Cardinals. Other offensive contributors were Campbell (single), Ogle (double, triple), Huneryager (single), Bowman (single), Mosher (single) and Greg Rodgers (single).
Warriors compete in Tipton Relays
The North Miami boys track team competed in the Tipton Relays, finishing seventh out of seven teams with two points.
NM soccer league kicks into action
In K-1 soccer action, the black team defeated the blue team 6-0.
Drew Joseph scored all six goals.
The red team downed the green team 2-1 in other K-1 play.
For the red, Wayne Hill and Emily Grant scored goals.
Conner Gray scored for the green team.
In grade 2-3 play, the red and green teams tied at one.
Caleb Rexroad scored a goal for the red team, while Caleb McPherson knocked one in for the green team.
In grade 4-5 action, Layton Gibbs scored four goals to lead the blue team to a 7-0 win over the green team.
Levi McKey scored two goals for the blue team, while Martha Kilcrece added a goal.
In grade 6-8 play, the blue team downed the black team 10-5.
Scoring for the blue team were Colin Gibbs (five goals), Branden Oldfather (two goals), Dakota Lane (one goal) and Casey Heckathorn (one goal).
L.B. Mongosa scored three goals for the black team. Garth Criettendon also scored a goal.
Peru schedules changes
The Peru varsity baseball game that was originally scheduled for April 20 and was postponed has been rescheduled to Friday at 5 p.m. The start time for the May 12 varsity softball game has been changed from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
